An old friend of mine came to visit China last week, and we shared the general sight-seeing tour together--Great Wall, Forbidden City, Summer Palace, Temple of Heaven--all the big name places neither she nor our kids had yet seen. 

 

We saw palaces and temples, intricately-embroidered silks and Cyprus trees older than our country. We tried out old-style gongs and zhengs (a horizontal harp-like instrument). We saw musical performances and acrobats, ate Beijing duck and Chinese crepes.

 

The kids agreed that their favorite thing was the Great Wall. Benjamin thought the pedi-cab ride around one of the parks back to the market at the other entrance was a close second, though. Katie was asleep for that, and didn’t wake up until we arrived, but when asked later in the day for her favorite things, she also listed the pedi-cab ride as the best experience of the day.    Perhaps she's learning to appreciate naps.
